List of Travel Websites
Booking platforms, airlines, hotels, rail and bus operators, cruise lines, tour sellers, travel guides and tourism boards. Here is the size of the travel list, who leads it and how to cut it for your market.
How many travel websites are there?
Our database covers over 120 million domains, and 2,818,617 of them carry the Travel category. That is 2.7% of the web, and 4.5% of the 300,000 most popular domains.
Travel sites draw large audiences because most trips are now researched online, from the first idea to the boarding pass. The list follows that whole journey, from inspiration and reviews to tickets, beds and local tours.
All travel domains
Every domain where travel is part of the site: booking, transport, lodging, tours, guides and destination sites.
Travel first
Domains where travel is the main subject. The list most travel buyers start with.
Car rental
The IAB Auto Rentals tier, often added to travel lists for complete trip coverage.
Attractions
The IAB Attractions subject: museums, theme parks, outdoor activities, zoos and more.
Travel is more than booking: a list of travel websites also holds small hotels, campsites, ski schools, local guides and holiday rentals. Most of them sit far below the famous brands in popularity, but they are the bulk of the list.
Top 10 travel websites
The ten leading travel websites in our data, ranked by popularity among real users. Booking platforms lead, followed by airlines and hotel groups. Two US airlines and one European low-cost carrier make the list, and an Indian travel agency ranks above several global brands.
Below the top 10 come more airlines, hotel chains, flight search engines, rail ticket sellers, tour marketplaces and flight trackers. Japan and India have unusually strong national travel sites that outrank many global brands at home.
Country editions of review and booking sites are separate domains in the file. Each one has its own visitors, so they stay as separate rows and can be merged by brand when you need it.
Travel subcategories in the IAB Content Taxonomy
The IAB tiers tell you what kind of travel a site covers. These are the Tier 2 counts across the full database, IAB version 3.
| IAB v3 subcategory | Domains | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Travel > Travel Type | 1,736,648 | Hotels, flights, rail, cruises, camping, business and budget travel |
| Travel > Travel Locations | 422,680 | Destination guides, tourism boards, regional travel sites |
| Automotive > Auto Rentals | 253,847 | Car hire and vehicle rental |
| Travel > Travel Preparation and Advice | 109,162 | Visas, travel tips, packing and planning guides |
| Travel > Travel Accessories | 22,059 | Luggage, travel gear and accessories |
Travel types among popular travel sites
Within the 13,612 popular travel domains, these Tier 3 types lead.

The full tree is on the taxonomy page. For the sector view, see travel and hospitality domains.
Travel websites by country
Of the 13,612 popular travel domains, 9,137 have a country assigned. These are the ten largest shares.
Full database: travel domains by ending
| Ending | Travel domains | Note |
|---|---|---|
| .de | 271,198 | Germany, the largest country ending for travel |
| .it | 79,156 | Italy |
| .fr | 74,398 | France |
| .ru | 62,821 | Russia |
| .nl | 49,344 | Netherlands |
| .eu | 37,818 | Pan-European travel sites |
| .pl | 32,144 | Poland |
| .es | 27,189 | Spain |
| .at | 25,734 | Austria, large for its size |
| .travel | 7,035 | of 8,848 .travel domains carry Travel |
European country endings hold a large share of the travel long tail. Hotels, holiday homes and tour sellers in Germany, Italy, France and Austria often use the national ending. See Italy domains, Austria domains and Japan domains.
Popularity bands of travel websites
A few booking platforms take the biggest share of visits. Below them sit thousands of airlines, hotels and regional sellers, and then the long tail of small lodging and tour businesses.
| Global popularity band | Popular travel domains | Typical sites |
|---|---|---|
| Top 1,000 | 14 | Global booking platforms, review sites, the largest airlines |
| 1,001 to 5,000 | 77 | Airlines, hotel groups, flight search, national travel agencies |
| 5,001 to 10,000 | 129 | Rail operators, cruise lines, tour marketplaces |
| 10,001 to 50,000 | 961 | Regional airlines, hotel brands, bus ticketing |
| 50,001 to 100,000 | 1,191 | Tour operators, destination sites, ski resorts |
| 100,001 to 500,000 | 9,934 | Independent hotels, holiday parks, local tourism boards |
| 500,001 to 1,000,000 | 1,306 | Small lodging and niche tour sellers |
Most popular travel domains, 9,934 of 13,612, sit in the 100,001 to 500,000 band. Travel is a market of many mid-sized and small players behind a handful of giants.
For a travel tech seller, the 10,001 to 500,000 bands are often the sweet spot: large enough to need software, too small to build it in-house.
Types of travel websites in the list
The travel list brings together businesses with very different needs. These groups cover most of it.
Booking platforms
Online travel agencies and metasearch for hotels, flights and packages. Few in number, very high reach.
Airlines
Full-service and low-cost carriers. They carry the Air Travel tier and often the Aviation Industry tier.
Hotels and lodging
Hotel groups, independent hotels, B&Bs, holiday rentals and campsites. The largest group by count.
Rail and bus
Rail operators, ticket resellers and coach companies, very popular in Europe, India and Japan.
Cruises and ferries
Cruise lines, river cruises and ferry operators, tagged with the Cruises tier.
Tours and activities
Tour marketplaces, local guides and activity sellers, often paired with Attractions tiers.
Guides and blogs
Destination guides, travel magazines and travel blogs. They carry Travel Locations and sometimes News/Media.
Tourism boards
National, regional and city tourism offices. Many also carry Government & Legal.
Travel and its neighbouring categories
A trip touches many subjects: food, events, sport and transport. These related categories help you widen a travel list with intent.
| Category | Domains | Add it when |
|---|---|---|
| Restaurants & Dining | 1,845,639 | You build destination lists or sell to hospitality |
| Sports & Recreation | 2,872,482 | Ski, golf, diving and outdoor holidays matter to you |
| Automotive & Transportation | 3,096,363 | You cover car hire, transfers and transport operators |
| Arts & Entertainment | 13,615,861 | Rarely in full: filter to venues and festivals with IAB tiers |
| Real Estate | 2,751,763 | You track holiday homes sold or let through agents |
Three travel list recipes
Hotels in Southern Europe
Travel as main subject, Hotels and Motels tier, countries Spain, Italy, Portugal and Greece. A base for booking engine and hotel software sales.
Airlines and airports worldwide
Air Travel and Aviation Industry tiers, all countries, popularity up to 100,000. Useful for aviation suppliers and travel advertisers.
Alpine winter tourism
Travel plus Skiing and Outdoor Activities tiers, endings .at, .ch, .it and .fr. A seasonal campaign list for winter sports brands.
Travel follows the seasons
Travel sites have strong seasonal patterns. Your list stays the same, but how you use it should change through the year.
Advertisers often rotate travel types through the year, while software sellers time outreach before the busy season of each segment.
Both start from the same list and switch filters, not data. Researchers use the same idea in reverse, comparing how many travel sites each region has for each type of trip.
Who buys a list of travel websites, and why
Travel lists are bought by teams that sell to the travel trade, advertise around trips, or protect travellers.
Travel technology companies
Booking engines, channel managers, revenue tools and payment providers find hotels, tour operators and airlines by country and size. See lead generation and sales intelligence.
Affiliate networks
Recruit travel merchants and publishers, and check that partners really sell travel. See affiliate marketing networks.
Advertisers and adtech
Reach people while they plan a trip, using travel types and destinations for context. See contextual targeting.
Hospitality suppliers
Linen, food service, furniture and staffing firms map hotels and resorts in a region.
Tourism researchers
Count lodging and tour businesses per region, track short-term rentals and compare markets. See market research intelligence.
Fraud and trust teams
Fake booking pages and copied hotel sites target travellers. A trusted list of real travel sites is a baseline for checks.
Corporate travel and IT
Companies allow airline, hotel and rail sites under strict network policies so staff can travel for work. See web content filtering.
SEO and content teams
Map competing travel sites by destination and travel type. See SEO competitor analysis.
Columns included in the travel list
Each travel domain comes with every field in the database, one row per domain, as CSV, Parquet or JSON. The examples are real rows.
| Field | booking.com | airbnb.com |
|---|---|---|
| IAB v2 Tier 1 to 4 | Travel > Travel Type > Hotels and Motels | Travel > Travel Type > Hotels and Motels |
| IAB v3 Tier 1 to 4 | Travel > Travel Type > Hotels and Motels | Travel > Travel Type > Hotels and Motels |
| Web filtering categories | Travel | Travel |
| Audience personas | Typical visitor profiles | Typical visitor profiles |
| Country | Not assigned | United States |
| Global popularity band | Top 1,000 | 1,001 to 5,000 |
| Country popularity band | Not assigned | Top 1,000 in its country |
Global platforms often have no single country assigned, because they serve travellers everywhere. Regional sellers, hotels and tourism boards usually do. Check any site in the domain checker.
What makes travel data tricky
Brand families
One hotel group can run a site per brand and per country. Each is its own row, so you can count brands or merge them by owner in your own analysis.
Platforms vs suppliers
A booking platform and the hotels listed on it are different businesses. Popularity bands and travel types help you tell them apart.
Travel content vs travel sales
Guides and blogs talk about travel but do not sell it. Use the Travel Locations tier and the News/Media category to find or remove them.
Look-alike booking pages
New domains that copy a hotel or airline name appear every day. New domains are categorized daily and checked again after a week and a month, which helps flag them early.
None of these issues needs manual work on millions of rows. They are handled with the categories, tiers and bands already in each row, plus your own rules for edge cases.
How to build the travel list you need
Start broad and narrow down. Each stop on this route uses a field already in the file.
Choose the scope
Travel as main subject for pure travel businesses, or every domain with Travel to include guides and portals.
Pick travel types
Hotels, air, rail, cruises or business travel through the IAB Tier 3 types. Add Auto Rentals for car hire.
Set the destination market
Use the country field and domain ending. A list of Austrian ski hotels can combine .at with skiing and lodging tiers.
Add attractions if needed
Museums, theme parks and outdoor activities complete a destination list.
Tier by size
Use popularity bands to split global platforms, national brands and small independents.
Recipe: independent hotels in Italy = Travel as main subject + Hotels and Motels + country Italy or .it + global band 100,001 to 1,000,000. Booking platforms drop out on their own, because they sit in the top bands.
Questions buyers ask about travel lists
Travel buyers tend to ask the same few questions before they decide.
Are seasonal businesses kept?
Yes, as long as their site is live. Ski schools and summer campsites stay in the list out of season, because their domain and content remain.
Are holiday rental listings included?
Rental platforms are included as domains. Individual listings on a platform are pages, not domains, so they are not separate rows.
Can I find business travel sites?
Yes. Business Travel is the most common travel type among popular travel domains, with 1,087 sites.
How fresh is the list?
About 300,000 new domains are categorized daily and checked again after a week and a month. All other domains are refreshed monthly.
