List of Blogs and Personal Websites

Blogs are where hobbies, opinions and hard-won expertise get written down for anyone to read. From recipe blogs to developer diaries, they reach loyal, focused audiences that big portals rarely match.

Our data holds about 1.1 million blogs and personal sites, each with topic categories, country, audience personas and popularity among real users. This page shows how they split and how buyers use them.

The 10 best-known blogs and blog platforms

The most visited domains in the blogs and personal sites category, in order of popularity. Several are platforms that host millions of blogs; the rest are single, very large blogs.

1
ameblo.jpLarge Japanese blogging service, popular with celebrities and everyday writers
2
note.comJapanese publishing platform for writers and creators, with paid articles
3
tumblr.comMicroblogging and social blogging platform built around reblogs
4
blogger.comLong-running hosted blog platform used for personal and hobby blogs
5
medium.comOpen publishing platform for essays, guides and professional writing
6
huffpost.comNews and opinion site that grew out of a group blog
7
thekitchn.comFood and cooking site with recipes and kitchen advice
8
wordpress.comHosted blogs and websites on a widely used blogging system
9
boredpanda.comCommunity-driven site for viral art, photos and stories
10
recipetineats.comPersonal recipe blog with a very large international following
Large news portals that run blog sections also carry the blog category, but we leave them out of this top 10 so it reflects blogging itself. The top websites ranking shows the overall leaders.

Two things stand out. Japanese platforms take the first two places, a sign of how strong personal publishing is in Japan. And two of the ten are food sites, which matches the topic data further down this page: food is the largest subject among popular blogs.

About 150 popular blogs fall under sensitive topics, including adult content. They are in the data for brand safety and filtering, and we do not name them.

How big are popular blogs?

Very few blogs reach the very top of the web. Most popular blogs sit in the broad middle, which is exactly where loyal niche audiences live. Here is how the 6,035 popular blogs spread across global popularity groups.

Global popularity groupPopular blogsWhat it means
Top 1,0008Mostly big platforms that pool millions of blogs
1,001 to 10,000132Household names in their country or niche

100,001 to 500,0004,314The core of the creator web: focused, steady audiences
500,001 to 1 million469Smaller but often highly engaged blogs
Beyond these 6,035 sit more than a million smaller blogs. They matter for coverage, for example in filtering and research, even if each has a modest audience.

Blogs by country

About two thirds of popular blogs write for an audience that is not tied to one country. For the rest, the country is clear from the content, and these are the largest markets.

Counts are for blogs among the 300,000 most visited domains. Country views of the whole database are on pages such as India domains and Japan domains.

What counts as a blog or personal site

The category is about the voice of a site, not its software. A shop built on blogging software is still a shop; a personal essay site on a custom system is still a blog.

Personal voice

Written by one person or a small group, in the first person, about their own views, work or hobbies.

Posts over time

Content arrives as dated posts or entries, rather than as a fixed set of product or service pages.

Personal pages

Portfolios, online CVs and link-in-bio pages also fall here, even when they rarely publish new posts.

Plus a topic

A blog always has a subject too. That is why each one also carries topic categories, such as Food & Drink or Travel.

Blog lists versus news and media lists

Buyers often ask whether they need blogs, news sites or both. The two lists overlap at the edges, but they serve different goals.

Blogs and personal sites

  • About 1.1 million domains
  • Niche audiences, personal tone
  • Strong for partnerships and contextual fit
  • More variation in quality

News and media

  • About 1.25 million domains
  • Broad audiences, editorial standards
  • Strong for reach and premium inventory
  • See the list of news websites

Subtopics with the most popular blogs

One level deeper, at IAB Tier 2, the picture gets sharper. Cooking leads by a wide margin, and fiction and comics show how much creative writing lives on blogs.

Platforms versus independent blogs

"Blog" covers two very different things in domain data. Knowing which you need avoids a list that is either too thin or full of giants. Most buyers want one of the two, rarely both in the same file.

Blog platforms

One domain hosts thousands or millions of blogs. They rank very high because their traffic is pooled.

  • Good for network policy and brand safety rules
  • Little use for outreach: one domain, many owners
  • Content quality varies blog by blog

Independent blogs

One owner, one domain, one voice. Recipe, travel, parenting and tech blogs on their own names.

  • Best for influencer and partner outreach
  • Clear topic, so contextual fit is strong
  • Smaller audiences, often very loyal

Domains on endings such as .blog, .me and .dev are often personal sites. In our data about 14,500 .blog domains, 6,800 .me domains and 6,700 .dev domains carry the blogs and personal sites category. The top-level domains list has totals per ending.

Who reads blogs: audience personas

Each domain carries audience personas. These personas fit blog and creator audiences well, and they are a handy way to narrow a blog list. Counts are for the whole database, across all site types.

Food Blogger

Assigned to about 2.4 million domains across the database, from recipe blogs to cooking magazines.

Content Creator

About 1.5 million domains, covering creators, video makers and personal brands.

Baking Enthusiast

About 2.4 million domains, a useful filter for baking supplies and kitchen appliances.

Poetry Enthusiast

About 1.7 million domains, close to the fiction and literature blogs that rank well.

Photography Enthusiast

About 1.7 million domains, from photo blogs to camera reviews.

Gamer

About 2.4 million domains, including gaming blogs and walkthrough sites.

Personas describe readers, not authors. Combine them with the blog category and a topic to get, for example, baking blogs whose readers are also nutrition minded. See audience segmentation and targeting.

How buyers use a list of blogs

Influencer and partner outreach

Find independent blogs in a niche and country, then reach out for reviews, sponsored posts or affiliate deals. See affiliate marketing networks.

Contextual advertising

Blogs have clear topics, so ads match content well. Build inclusion lists per topic. See contextual targeting.

Publisher acquisition

Ad networks and monetization platforms find blogs that could join their network. See publisher monetization.

Research

Study what people write about, by country and topic, and how the creator web shifts over time.

Brand safety

Allow trusted blogs while keeping platform content with mixed quality under closer review.

Network policy

Decide whether personal sites are allowed on work or school networks, with exceptions by topic.

Ready-made blog list cuts

Common requests from buyers, and the filters that produce them. Any of them can be limited to one or more countries.

What each blog record contains

Domain

The blog's own domain, or the platform domain for hosted blogs where those act as separate sites.

Categories

Blogs/Personal Sites plus any other web filtering categories, and IAB v2 and v3 topics up to Tier 4.

Personas

Audience types the blog attracts, such as Food Blogger or Lifelong Learner.

Country and popularity

The country the blog serves where clear, and its popularity group worldwide and in its country.

The list has no names, emails or social handles. It is a list of websites, not of people. Delivered as CSV, JSON or Parquet; see domain list download formats.

Tips for working with blog lists

Start with popularity

Most blogs get few visitors. For outreach, a popularity cut removes abandoned and tiny blogs in one step.

Separate platforms

Remove hosting platforms from outreach lists, or treat them as one row each, to avoid contacting a platform about one user's blog.

Check activity

Blogs pause and restart. For partnerships, look at recent posts before contacting anyone.

Respect privacy

Personal sites belong to people. If you add contact data later, follow the privacy rules that apply in each country.

Mix sizes on purpose

A campaign with five large blogs and fifty mid-sized ones often reaches more engaged readers than one with only the biggest names.

Use two topic levels

Tier 1 topics give volume, Tier 2 subtopics give precision. Start broad, look at a sample, then tighten to the subtopics that fit.

Refresh the list

Blogs start, stop and change direction. Ask for a fresh cut before each campaign rather than reusing last year's file.

Worked example: a baking brand looking for partner blogs

A mid-sized baking ingredients brand wants 300 blogs in Germany, France and Italy for a sponsored recipe series. This is how the list comes together.

StepFilter or actionEffect
1. CategoryBlogs/Personal SitesStarts from the full set of about 1.1 million blogs
2. TopicIAB Food & Drink, with Desserts and Baking or CookingKeeps only food blogs, the largest blog topic
3. CountriesGermany, France, ItalyMatches the brand's three markets
4. SizeCountry popularity groups up to the top 500,000Removes tiny and abandoned blogs
5. PersonasBaking Enthusiast or Food BloggerPuts baking-focused blogs at the top
6. Clean-upRemove hosting platforms and news portalsLeaves independent blogs only
7. ReviewCheck recent posts by handConfirms each blog is still active
The same steps work for travel brands, parenting products or developer tools. Only the topic, personas and countries change, and the review step stays just as important.

Why blog audiences are worth reaching

Trust

Readers follow a person, not a brand. A recommendation from a blogger they read every week carries weight.

Focus

A sourdough blog is about sourdough. Contextual fit is near perfect, with little wasted reach.

Long life

Good posts get found for years through search, so a mention keeps working long after a campaign ends.

Local reach

Blogs write in local languages about local habits, which helps brands enter markets where big portals feel distant.

List of blogs: questions

How many blogs are there in your database?

About 1.1 million domains carry the Blogs/Personal Sites category, out of a database of over 120 million categorized domains.

What are the most popular blog topics?

Among the most visited blogs, food and drink is the largest topic, led by cooking and baking. Technology, books and fiction, business, entertainment and hobbies follow.

Which are the best-known blogs?

Among the most visited blog and personal publishing sites are ameblo.jp, note.com, tumblr.com, blogger.com, medium.com, huffpost.com, thekitchn.com, wordpress.com, boredpanda.com and recipetineats.com.

Does the list include blog platforms and single blogs?

Both. Large blogging platforms are listed as domains, and individual blogs on their own domains are listed separately, each with its own subject categories.

Can I get blogs on one topic only?

Yes. Each blog also carries IAB topic categories, so you can ask for food blogs, parenting blogs or travel blogs, filtered by country and popularity.

Does the list contain contact details?

No. The list contains domains with categories, country, audience personas and popularity groups. It does not include names, emails or other personal data.

How many blogs are among the most visited sites?

About 6,000 of the 300,000 most visited domains are blogs or personal sites, around 2%. Only a handful reach the global top 1,000, and those are mostly platforms.

Are blogs on hosted platforms included?

Where hosted blogs work as separate sites with their own address, they can appear as their own rows. Otherwise the platform domain stands for all of them.

Can I exclude blogs from an advertising list?

Yes. Many brand safety setups exclude personal sites, or allow only blogs above a popularity threshold. The category makes either choice a single filter.

Where can I see other category lists?

All major lists are on websites by category.
